Snapshots of our holiday in Dubai

Our Summer started in Dubai again this year, with gorgeous light and food in our favourite hotel at the Palm. It was a perfect time to recharge batteries, to be together with my family and to enjoy the full sun. The girls collected sea shells, and little treasures, they can stay hours playing in the pool or at the beach It was such a lovely week.

Snapshots of our Week #14 – Climbing and Dancing

The last weeks have been all about end-of-term shows and exploring London with my little ones.

our life London Documentary Family Photographer - Ana Ruivo Photography

We have been climbing, well…we tried! My eldest just like her mum is afraid of heights but I am sure with some training we can reach the top =D We visited the sweetest exhibition about “Winnie-the-Pooh” at V&A Museum. I recommend highly to go if you haven’t yet. Last day is the 8th of April. And this Saturday I had the opportunity to see my girl’s ballet class and I took some pictures in this gorgeous studio at St. Mary of Angel’s Church in Notting Hill.

A tribute to all mothers – I see you

      Dear Mum,

I know how busy you are. I know the timing is never perfect. This weekend there is a birthday party, next one there’s ballet and football practice. You still need to lose those extras pounds, you should buy new clothes for the children. Maybe when they are older, they will behave better in front of the camera…No. No, because when I see you through my camera I see you as you are in your heart.

Notting Hill day in the life London Family Photography

When I photograph you, I can see things that you are not able to see yourself. I can see the tiny moments that never get captured by your phone. I can see the way your son grabs your sweater on your back when you pick him up. I can see the way your husband looks at you when you are looking at the kids. I can see the way your daughter looks at you like you have superpowers.

I can see the way you love unconditionally your family, the way you laugh so sincerely with your children. I can see the way your eyes sparkle with every new trick or expression your baby does. I see your strong arms that are able to lift loads of groceries and baskets of laundry. I see your graceful body that was able to carry your children. I can see your beautiful hands that wipe away tears and your lips that can cure all the imaginary pains.

You don’t have any dark circles under your eyes, your weight is exactly right and your hair looks perfect. All I can see is love. And love makes all the imperfections that beat us down every day in the mirror blur into the background.

Your children will remember the way your laugh sounds and the smell of your hair and the warmth of your breath on their heads.  They will remember the way your hands turned the pages of the books and that you gave the best hugs they will ever have.  They will know that the lines on your face came from how much you smiled and the wrinkle in your forehead came from how much you worried because you loved them with everything you had.

And when they look back at your photo albums, they will not see anything other than how you gave them the world. Don’t let the time pass without being in pictures with your children.

Let’s tell your story. The time is now.

      x

      Ana

Snapshots of our week #13 – Snowy London

Our life London Documentary Family Photography-Ana Ruivo

London was covered in fluffy snow for children delight. Mine loved the first day when all was white and clean after the second day was a struggle to get out of the house. I hope you enjoyed the snow with your family. We managed to go to the Science Museum, they love the interactive experiments. Now we are back to a better weather in London, so I can’t wait to go back to the park with the girls.

        Have a lovely week!

Our week Our life - Documentary London Family Photographer -Ana Ruivo Photography

This last week was all about the girls, I enjoyed my time with them and especially observing them playing together. We always celebrate Valentine’s Day. I know it is so cheesy but we celebrate the love in our family and also for ourselves. We write and draw cards to each other and we find another reason for having cake =) The week finished with them going to a ballet workshop from The Ballet School, amazing and proper local ballet school, my girls just loved it.

Hope you had fun and got some rest.

Snapshots of our weeks 9 – 10 – This is our life

Weeks pass by so fast with so much work from my part I haven’t been able to document my family and our life as much as I use to do. We all have been caught by colds and virus this week so we profit for these moments together, by staying warm inside, playing and invite some friends over. Week finished with some lovely lunch with friends and me, wondering when the winter is over. I think you can tell by my pictures that I am logging for some sunshine =)

Now half-term is upon us and I wish you a relaxing and exciting week!

Snapshots of Our Week #7 – Winter Wonderland – London Family Photographer

Last week my parents came to visit for the weekend and we went to Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, always a big hit with the girls. It’s a lovely place to take pictures of children having fun in the rides and being so excited about Christmas.

I had already two family photoshoots there and I can’t recommend enough, although hard to photograph, it is really magical and we get truly beautiful pictures. I will do two more different post about it.

Snapshots of Our Week #5 – Colder days – London Family Photographer

Colder days arrived and scarfs, hats and gloves are out!

Ana Ruivo Notting Hill London Family Photography - week 5

We started the week celebrating Bonfire Night. On the very night that the Gunpowder Plot was foiled, on November 5th, 1605, bonfires were set alight to celebrate the safety of the King. Since then, November 5th has become known as Bonfire Night. The event is commemorated every year with fireworks and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire. We went to the beautiful Cleveland Gardens where I was lucky to be in the front row of the fireworks.

We finished our week to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The girls do the party themselves with lots of joy, music and cards for daddy.

Hope you had a wonderful week!

How to decorate your home with family pictures – London Family Photographer

                  Family pictures

As a documentary photographer in love with shooting real, un-posed moments, I hear these laments from clients often: “Oh, how I love this photo, but I just don’t know how I would display it!” or “I love candid photos, but I need a posed family portrait for the wall.”

While every mom (including myself!) loves a good posed family portrait and certainly should have one or more on their wall, you can also have beautiful, moment-filled walls in your home.

Imagine being surrounded daily with your all-time favorite memories: summer sprinkler runs, autumn leaf fights, winter home baking joy, and spring puddling jumping, right where you can see them every day. I’ve welcomed these memories into my home, and you can too. Here’s some of my favourite ways how to fill your home with photographed memories.

At our home above the sofa in our main living room, I have some of my favourite images from the past year framed and matted in conjunction with some art and things and places we love I switch them out only once per year, so it’s really hard to choose!

You can find more ideas on my Pinterest Board dedicated to gallery walls.

Snapshots of Our Week #4 – Halloween – London Family Photographer

This week was all about Halloween and the kids enjoyed so much taking part of this pagan tradition. Halloween probably originated as a Celtic pagan festival of the dead, and the Irish immigrants, who sailed to North America in the 19th century, took the custom with them and began using the native pumpkins instead of the traditional turnips as they were bigger and easier to carve. They then placed a light in them to ward off evil spirits and to remember the souls in purgatory.

Halloween London Family Photography - Ana Ruivo

It’s only been a couple of years that Halloween is popular in Notting Hill. US resident families brought Halloween to the neighbourhood for the kids delight. Halloween pumpkins displayed in windows, (regarded as a sign to knock on the door) can be found throughout our streets.

We carved the pumpkins , we dressed up with spooky costumes (still adorable though) and we had lots of fun going out trick or treating in our neighbourhood. In Notting Hill houses were properly decorated and we even had the chance to see a clairevoyante =D

Hope you had a lovely and spooky week!
