A Day in the Life in Notting Hill – London Family Photographer

It’s been almost 3 years I have been photographing this family and their adventures in London. I couldn’t be happier they followed my dream of going for a full documentary photo session. They tried last year and now they are hooked with a great addition this year of crazy sweet loving Archie, the dog.  =)

Real life is enough – real memories that stay forever in their sons’ minds – are the precious moments in between, the gentle gestures of every day. Mummy making breakfast, boys helping out or playing stressfree, daddy getting them dressed, mummy combing their hair, the strolls around the block, the silly games, the smiles, the laugh and the freedom of smelling the flowers. But most importantly I wanted to capture on this photo shoot was the connection between these two brothers and which is getting stronger each day.

Documentary family photography has a real power beyond just a “nice” picture to go on the wall. We are creating a heritage for future generations – the ability to look back at what life looked and felt like on that one day, to start conversations between our children and their own grandchildren, long after we have left this world. When you think about it, that is pretty darn cool! This is why I choose to make unposed and undirected family images.

You can have a look at another beautiful Day in the Life session here,  and another here.

If you want to give a family documentary session a try, or if you have any questions about these types of sessions, please drop me a note – I’d love to continue the conversation.

Snapshots of Our Week #5 – Colder days – London Family Photographer

Colder days arrived and scarfs, hats and gloves are out!

Ana Ruivo Notting Hill London Family Photography - week 5

We started the week celebrating Bonfire Night. On the very night that the Gunpowder Plot was foiled, on November 5th, 1605, bonfires were set alight to celebrate the safety of the King. Since then, November 5th has become known as Bonfire Night. The event is commemorated every year with fireworks and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire. We went to the beautiful Cleveland Gardens where I was lucky to be in the front row of the fireworks.

We finished our week to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The girls do the party themselves with lots of joy, music and cards for daddy.

Hope you had a wonderful week!

Snapshots of Our Week is a personal project where I document our lives week by week. I am delighted to share them with you and to show you why documentary photography is my passion.

A day in the life – London Family Photography

I couldn’t be more happy that one of my beloved clients this year wanted to try my documentary family photography sessions – A Day in the Life.

This is the result of a day spent with this beautiful family. It was a pleasure to capture the sublimacy of some of the ordinary moments of their lives.

4 year old birthday party – London Family Photography

This superhero birthday party was just amazing and really fun to capture. Everything was prepared with great care and love for details by Notorious Kids, who also brought outstanding entertainers. There were lots of games, music and bubbles. The children were super happy and engaged from the beginning until the end.  And for Harry’s delight, Batman brought him the most beautiful cake!

Check-out also here last year Harry’s birthday party too and other recent party here.

If you are having a party soon and you would like to have it documented, or if you have any questions, please drop me a note – I’d love to continue the conversation.

A day in our life – London Family Photography

One day I looked down at my sweet newborn, my firstborn baby girl, and was shocked to realize that somehow overnight she had aged to about thirteen months old and she was running around the house. Except, it didn’t actually happen overnight, it just felt that way. As soon as I had children, it was like someone pushed the fast forward button on life and things started speeding by so fast. I knew I had to find some way to capture what their childhood was like, and I wanted to tell their story, and be able to convey to them what it was like to be them later in life , to be me, to live in our life. Right there at that moment started my photography journey.

I am extremely passionate about documentary family photography and believe that A Day in the Life sessions are really important to tell our story in the most authentic way. Most of us do a great job of documenting extraordinary outings, celebrations, and milestones, forgetting that in many ways, our most cherished memories are derived from everyday moments. It can be difficult to step back and appreciate the beauty of the life as we experience or observe it day in and day out, but the fact is that our daily activities do change – sometimes incrementally and imperceptibly. A Day in the Life is a beautiful way to capture the rituals and routines that are so easy to take for granted (but are gone before we know it).

I photographed my family on a Saturday on a Spring like day. The weather was perfect – London at this time to the year is blooming with gorgeous magnolias and cherry trees. We did the things we like the most in our neighbourhood in Notting Hill –  lazy morning in bed, 2 hours breakfast, ballet classes, singing session, lunch at our favourite place, shopping at Portobello Market, out to the playground, naps and quiet time, some not so quiet…, messy bubble baths and bedtime stories.

This is my life. This is our story. This is us, right now.

Your family has a story too, many stories, actually, to tell, and I believe they should be preserved.

If you want to give a family documentary session a try, or if you have any questions about these types of sessions, please drop me a note – I’d love to continue the conversation.
